Thanks, I really hadn't noticed the weakness of that mount. I'm using spray bomb yellow paint right now, but on final assembly I will powder coat all these pieces and I will be sure to weld that better before I sandblast them again.

It's probably fine but since your reinforcing the heck out of it may as well do it!
:D

Great project!

Fantastic concept and a very detailed project!

Now, just wondering if will do 400+ MPH and where you'll mount the Four .50- cal machine guns and 20-mm cannon?

HaHa, Don't think that I have not thought about it....If I could just find a cool place to mount them, LOL. :D

OK, back to the project. Lets figure out how to cool this beast. Car is going to living in Texas, and it's going to get A/C, so it will be imperative that she stays cool.

We will start with modifying the original oil tank.

Now we'll add a nose Setrab nose cooler.

Let's add another cooler! Battery box is in the way, so we remove it and plate it in.

Spent a lot of time researching and trying to come up with the best way to plumb the oil cooler lines. B.A.T. was the go to place for weird fittings.

Amazing.
I love what you are doing

jpnovak 09-24-2013 08:52 AM

I think you should open the rockers and run the lines inside. This will complete the sleek look you are targeting.

Where in TX?

In the beginning of this build, it was decided to install a Fuel Safe fuel cell, as we do with pretty much all of our builds here at TAJ Motorsports. The bags of sand are what we added after mocking up the suspension and engine so we could see her stance. This picture was taken at the very beginning of the build.

You can see here that we are using a Vintage Air Gen III A/C system. More about that later, but we are going to use an Optima yellow top battery, and being that we are going to be using wheel well mounted a/c condensers we had to get rid of the other battery box.

why a yellow top and not a red top?

Well, there were a few reasons for going with a yellow top. I'm going to be putting 4 a/c condensers with a fan on each one, plus the cooling fan on the oil cooler. This will be a high amperage load on the battery and in the past, I haven't had real good luck with the red tops on a vehicles with a lot of electronics. Also, see this you tube video. Difference between Red Top, Yellow Top and Blue Top Optima Batteries - YouTube

Last and best reason.....it was yellow!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/clap.gif

While we are on the subject of the battery, I found this gem on ebay! It was perfect for this build. This is a magneto switch out of a P-38! It is going to built into the console and it will be re-purposed as a battery kill switch! It was originally planned to have two batteries in the front, and this switch would have activated each or both of the batteries thru a huge relay, but as with all builds, had to change it up along the way.

As stated earlier, we are using a Vintage Air Gen III A/C system. This car will have no heater at all. The Gen III uses stepper motors instead of vacuum to actuate the doors inside the unit. I've used these systems a lot, and highly recommend them.

Midland.

I seriously thought about that, and it's still not out of the question. Not using them for heater air anyway, and I can get into them from inside the rear wheel well, so I may just do it! Probably gonna run the A/C lines on drivers side inside the rocker as well. It really just scares the crap out of me having those lines outside the car, down low, and having projectiles hurled at them going down the road. I think its a disaster waiting to happen!

Anxiously waiting to see the AC install.

Fuel Plumbing: Starting with an empty smugglers box, I decided to put the fuel filter and pump in here. I am going with two fuel filters, one in front of the pump, and one after.

Damn!!! Is this not one of the coolest builds ever? Like a racecar for the street. I am actually jealous of this one. And the craftsmanship! This lucky owner will be getting a hand-built car!!

tchesney 09-24-2013 01:32 PM

Remember that the P-38 Aircraft had yellow tipped propellers? I think this ties in well with the theme. I decided to paint the cooling fan yellow, so we took it out, sandblasted the housing and fan, and put it all back together.
