How will you adjust the shift coupler? Awesome build!

We are using a Hargett shifter and leaving the rods exposed. It will go thru the tunnel via a rubber grommet and there is plenty of room to adjust it at the trans end from under the car. Also, there is plenty of adjustment at the shifter end as well. There are some photos of that part of the build coming in the near future.

Thanx for sharing your project. I wondered who got that 993 TT engine.

Are you with LA Dismantlers?

No, I'm just another Porsche addict, here on Pelican.

I just had seen that engine, it is sweet

Interior. This is a work in progress and keeps changing here and there. But you can see the overall theme, and there have been a few changes since the picture was taken. BTW, that Porsche logo is entirely hand made and bead rolled. There will be black leather accents on either side of it. Just got one side stuck on to see how it fits.

These shots are mock ups in cardboard, and all the front dash stuff will be done in aluminum with tons of rivets, round and oval dimple dies, and such. The stereo system is a DVD head unit with navigation.

This shot shows the Hargett shifter and how it will flow into the front dash, but the rear of it is left exposed.

We threw that Night Lightning sign in the garbage! It ended up looking cheesy, so we ditched it for a "waterfall" in aluminum that starts at the rear glass and doesn't stop till it hits the floor! Pix to come later on that part.

That is a carbon fiber dash from Clint at Rebel Racing. Seems a shame to cover that pretty stuff, but we gonna cover it with padded black leather with french seams stitched in red.

Now to think waaay outside of the box on this next segment. Headliner. There is only so much you can do with a headliner, right? That's what we thought too, but the what-if's start flowing and this is where we are at now.

Started with a center divider that will be welded in.

One of the what-if's were, oval dimple dies in the center divider....

The next what-if's were, how bout we light that thing up? And put bead rolled filler panels in, (not bead rolled yet), and make them removable.

Well, one thing let to another, so let's fill in around the roof rails and smooth all that off, and simply paint it satin black, like the rest of the car.

Two rows of Red LED's mounted inside the center divider lends a real aircraft cockpit look. After all, the P-38 was a stealth bomber and operated mostly at night, so all you veteran bomber pilots remember that Air Force 90 degree flashlight that was issued with the red lens???? I've still got my dads and it still works. Anyway, that flashlight was the catalyst for this idea.

Actually thought about it! But the compound radius's and them meeting in the middle sorta fried my brain! So we just reverted back to the KISS method. The shrinker-stretcher made this job easy.

You know you need to shave the rain gutters now.

Night Lightning Disco!!!!!!!
Great work., cheers, Stef.

Geez.

When do you sleep? This is like a years worth of work for most people on these forums.

unclebilly 09-25-2013 09:18 PM

It looks like this will be a street car but If you plan to install a functional cage, that rail down the middle will be a PITA. Getting the main hoop above the top of a 6' tall driver's helmet is not easy in these cars.

Nice work otherwise.

I have been grieving over that for a while now. I just finished a 1952 F1 truck that I shaved the drip rails and man, that was PITA!!, But it was worth it. Here is a shot of Moonshiner from a photo shoot that is coming out in the next few months in Classic Truck's Magazine. I'm still on the fence about shaving the drip rails on Night Lightning tho, It's not over till its over!

Ha Ha, yea, I wish I could work this fast!! Actually, this build was started a few years ago, and I'm playing catchup right now. The car was started on and stopped several times for various reasons, but we are full steam ahead on her right now. She is not actually finished at this time, but I'm still several posts away from revealing where we are actually at on the build at this time. Let's put it this way, it will take me a few more days of posting to actually get caught up! I'm going thru literally thousands of photographs I have taken along the way to post up. I'm trying to stay in chronological order, and I may get one photo set ahead of the other, but I'm going to stay as true to the order as I can. One lesson learned here is that from now on, I will start posts and keep them up to date as I go, not wait a few years and try to catch up all at one time!!!!

I wanted to put a cage in, or at least a rear hoop, but the owner did not want a cage. Yes, the car will be a street car, and I highly doubt that she will ever see a track.

Incredible build, looking forward to catching up over the next days,
