New manufactured S calipers - is this new?

Has anyone seen this/these? They seem to be implying that they just started making these.

Dansk have been making them for a while now.

They first seemed to become available for the Alfa Romeo GTAm.

We just ordered a pair to check out and see what they are like.

Someone has asked a question on a forum in the UK about them being cast rather than forged.

The implication is that the original ATE parts were forged - which I am not sure is correct but would really like to know if this is true.

I haven't been a huge fan of Dansk sheet metal products, so I am a little concerned to hear that they are the ones making the calipers. They are offered at a good price, which would be tempting, if the quality is there. I'd really like to hear what you think of them when you've had a chance to see how they are made.

Thanks,
Jeff

Cast vs. Forged.

And the neighsayers thought the forged ones flexed too much for a lap around Riverside.

Yes, the original units were forged.

The seller shows two ebay ads. Both show two calipers. One says $1226; the other says $543. The latter sounds like a better deal.

JP / Dansk Bremssattel ALU Repro vorn SET passend für Porsche 911 2,2 S und RS | eBay

I asked a contact I have at Dansk if they are cast or forged and if they had a 'knock-off' bush.

They reply was that they couldn't tell me as they originally ordered 100 sets and they are all sold.

There will be no more until June - this seems to mean that JP Dansk haven't made any drawings and that they are being made by a 3rd Party who 'owns' the design.

CarPoint says they are TUV tested which should give some confidence but....

I was recently supplied some rebuilt calipers that were purchased by one of our customers.

They were refurbed by one of the divisions of Pagid and had a 'TUV Approved' label. They were poorly painted in silver, looked scruffy and we had no confidence so we returned them and used an alternative.

Actually its just the caliper on the left of the picture that has the outer piston shown backwards. The right caliper shows the outer piston installed near correct. Shame on them!

Twas I that asked on the DDK forum. The photos of the replicas show a textured surface that look to be cast rather than forged. The original ATE calipers were forged by Fuchs. Some may remember the propensity of cracking with cast replicas of the Fuchs alloy wheels. For a small run of 100 sets, I doubt that the cost of tooling or manufacturing would have allowed the replicas to be forged. So I would carefully consider the risks of failure before purchasing these replicas.
