Engine Serial Number

Hello everyone, brand new to the forum. I recently acquired a 1971 911T Targa . The car has been hacked a hundred different ways but runs good and drives straight. The previous owner told me it was the original motor but I have my doubts. Car's VIN is 9111112335 which jives but the engine serial number of 6107772 baffles me. According to the chart I'm looking at (could be wrong), the engine is a 2.2L from a 1970 coupe with Sportmatik (it a manual transmission). Hoping anyone can shed some light on this. Thanks in advance.

Matt

It certainly doesn't look like that is an original engine for the VIN. Is the Type# 911/07? That was a 1970 911T w/Sporto for the USA in the range of serial #6105001-6107999, according to Stoddard's chart. Getting the Kardex data for the car will clear it up, but I would guess the engine was swapped out at some point, which is not unusual. The PO either did not know, or did not care, or misrepresented the facts. An owner will usually buy a COA to document its originality if that's important in a sale. If the "car has been hacked a hundred different ways" you weren't buying it for originality and probably didn't pay the premium for that, so if it drives good, enjoy it!

Thanks tom. Yeah I dont think the PO knew or cared that the car may have not been numbers matching. Its really not that big a deal anyway because the price was right and she runs good. Im sure ill have a hundred other questions on the car once I really dig in. Thanks
