New to Pelican and new 911 owner (Edit: 911 resurection)

Hey guys. I just acquired a gem of a car. 1982 Porsche 911 sc with only 79,000 original miles. I bought it off of my dads best friend who is liquidating all of his assets. He had a 84 911 carrera and an old 356 in the same garage. The 911sc has been sitting since 95 so I have a lot of work to bring it back to life. I already have the interior cleaned up really nice. I have owned a 78 924 since 2008 and have always wanted a 911. I also got some spare parts thrown in with the car including a pair of 7Jx16 fuchs wheels that I listed for sale in the classified section of the forum. I am a member of 924board.org also and currently listed my 924 on their for sale. I put a lot of work into that one. I hate to see her go but I need to make room for the 911 in the garage.

I have been reading a lot about everyone's different projects and can't wait to get started with some of my own.

Andy

Sorry I was really excited I forgot to post pics. The car is very dusty but here is where I am at so far. I took pics when I first got to her and after I polished up the interior a little.

Interior looked a bit sad but with a little work and it cleaned up nice

after a little cleaning, already starting to come to life.

you can see through the glass now.

First off welcome,

The car seems to be in great shape. I too have a 924s and a member of 924board.org, you will find that this board has a huge community and you can get answers faster than you can refresh the page in some cases.

Before even turning the key I would change all the filters (air, fuel, oil) the plugs, the distro cap and rotor, the fan belt and all the fluids.

If your dads friends 356 for sale????

Regards
Dave

I just can't get my head around a person who locks a car like this away for 16 years!
Ask him "why?"
His loss is your gain , after you've carefully recommissioned it. There will be plenty to keep you busy.

I already have the new oil, oil filter, air filter, belts, fuel filter, plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. I plan on rebuilding the brake calipers and changing out the brake lines. Checking the parking brake and hand turning the motor before even giving it a crank. Luckily he drained the gas before storing.

About storing it for 16 years is actually a sad story. My dads friend is a brilliant engineer, but a series of unfortunate events lead him to give up on life. His son was a few years older than me and past due to a skiing accident and shortly after his wife divorced him and tried to take him to the cleaners. He quit his job and got a job working at Dick's Sporting Goods. What is causing him to liquidate his assets is that he was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was given 6 months to live. My dad and I have been helping him get things together and he is going down fast. My dad is going to take it hard.

Yeah he sold the 356 and the 84 carrera he sold to his oldest son along with the house.

I do plan on loosing the bra. I put it back on to take some pictures for him. He got really excited when he saw the pics of it getting cleaned up.

Welcome Andy, nice looking car love the color. Seems you have another mission. To get the car all cleaned up and hopefully running quickly enough for the PO to enjoy its new lease on life.

Keep us posted on your progress, Ask here if problems come up.

Cheers Richard

Welcome Andy!

Sad story indeed...work on getting her road worthy (shouldn't be that much of an effort) and take the PO for a long spirited ride.

PS- love the color!

Nice catch but sitting 16 years, does it turn over? Have you had it running? Just curious.

I still have a bunch of work to do before I even try to crank it over. I don't want to screw anything up. My next step is to get it on a trailer and over to my shop so I can work on it more. Unfortunately where it sits there are no lights in the garage and no heat. Plus all my tools and jacks are in my shop. I have it to the point it's a roller now. I also need to make room at my place and I am trying to sell my 78 924 right now.

Nice car Andy. I would keep those spare Fuchs and use them for mounting snow tires.

I thought about that, but I could use the money for the brake job. I'm really worried about the condition of the brakes and I don't want to be going down the road and not be able to stop because I over looked something. Or having a caliper seize up on me, so I am just getting new rotors, pads, I have a buddy powder coating the calipers and I am going to rebuild them, new brake lines, new bleeders and fluid.

Looks like a great starting point. Does it have pressure fed chain tensioners installed?

Congratulations! You will find owning the 911 a very rewarding experience and Pelican a very valuable resource. Pelican is as valuable to me as my toolbox.
