Finally Weighed my Early Targa

We built the foundation for this a new scale, tested quarterly and accurate to 20lbs. Fuel tank was at 3/4 and it is all stock. I got 2,440 lbs. You mileage may vary!

I'm bummed that the display doesn't photograph, but it really said 2440. And with me in it (don't ask) I was pretty certain it was dead on!

Yes - that could easily be a difference in fuel.

I would have thought the weights mentioned so far would be about 100 lbs less.

These weights are what I thought a 1977 with 2.7L would be.

Do the 1972 and 1973 cars have working A/C?

Do they have their original engines? Please refresh my memory on the displacement.

I'm trying to account for the unexpected weight (according to what I recall reading in a book many years ago).

Kid - thanks
George - no a/c, stock base model, heavy seats, numbers matching 2.4L engine, nothin' else.

For my car, stock 2.4L CIS motor and 915 Transmission. 19 mm front and rear sway bars, front strut brace, factory tool kit plus a box of other hand tools, some miscellaneous stuff in trunk with space saver spare on a steel wheel, 16x6 fuchs, 1977 seats with steel adapters, small fire extinguisher, optima battery in one box, other battery box is empty. AC compressor, both condensers, air dryer and interior vents removed but evaporator and blower still in smugglers box.

For comparison, mine is 2.4 MFI, 915 trans, stock sway bars front and rear, no strut brace, complete (and might I say very heavy) original tool kit, full size factory steel spare wheel and original tire, 15x6 Fuchs (4), stock (heavy) seats, average size fire extinguisher, 2 stock batteries, and no A/C. I have added an oil cooler in the front right wheel well with the braided hoses (two) run through the chassis. So that adds a few pounds including an extra couple of quarts of oil, but it's otherwise stock.

What does CIS car weigh Harry?

Repeating my own data from another thread, from weighing cars on a set of Longacre racing scales:

71 coupe w/83 3.0 liter, 73 factory sports seats, and front cooler: 2404 lbs.
73 CIS Targa, all stock, factory sport seats: 2442 lbs.
77 Turbo, A/C, but compressor and rear condenser removed: 2810 lbs.
83 Row Targa, no A/C, SSI exhaust and 74 muffler: 2602 lbs.

All cars with spare, factory tool kit, 3/4 tank fuel indicated on gauge.

These numbers match up well with the contemporary road tests.
