Transmission Leak... any thoughts?

I did a search in the archives and couldn’t find an answer to this problem.

Transmission fluid is leaking from the speedometer cable attachment just behind the transmission support. How do I stop this from leaking? If it was only a couple of drops I would leave it but it’s more like a 6” puddle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Post a picture, more descriptions, what year, etc.. What you have now is non-descript.

Mine leaked from behind the attachment for the speedo pick up. What it turned out to be was the case had a 1/2 inch hole in it. The speedo plate had a magnet that backed out of its place and wore a hole into the case. Hope it is not your situation here, because it cost a whole transmission rebuild, and they did it 3 times in 18 months. Finally, I had it with them and swap tranny with a Vertex rebuilt unit. Great shop, great guys, stand behind their products.

Ouch, that doesn't sound good. I hope it's not the same problem.

I'll take some pictures tonight and post them. The car is an 85 930. The leak is coming from the same place you described.

Look closely, remove the magnetic speedo pickup (should be in there with just a 10mm nut and a spring), if you see a hole then the case is ... toast. They tried to weld my case but it was not possible and in the end they just swapped case instead. Then I ended up bringing it back 3 times until I finally solved it by swapping the whole tranny.

Hope that is not yours.
