No idea, but the shell station by my work has "92" stickers on the premium pumps now.

That is good news.

I just wish they would give us our 92 back (I don't think that will ever happen).

91 is like water when your car has a turbo. I have been adding cans of TRICK to my tank to increase octane!

Here's an interesting defensive article on ehtanol, which glosses over some of the questions without actually answering them, and makes the assumption that everyone is driving new cars so all the problems magically go away.

No, it is not really a good thing.
The gasoline still has to meet the same specs, so it is blended with as much oxygenates as possible, then ethanol is added. Usually only around 3 to 4% by volume. Ethanol has a higher octane rating, but has a much lower BTU rating. That means less energy, less horsepower per CC, less gas mileage, and leaner engines. The % is pretty low so the change will probably not be noticeable to most people unless your car is on the verge already.
BTW, MTBE was blended as high as 10%. Taking that away and adding 3% ethanol leaves us with 7% less available fuel. Normal surplus runs around 1%, so we are not going to have anywhere near as much as before. Supply and demand determines gasoline prices so the price is going to go up big time probably around spring next year. you heard it here first (or second, or third). I have to go out now and check to see if I have odd or even license plates.

In my area, MTBE has been gone for several months, maybe a year. We have not seen 92 octane since it left....
