New ZO6 has noise cancelling technology. Any details?

Has anyone seen any more details on this? Anyone seen anything else on the market?

Bose noise cancelling now available for cars without Bose stereos - Autoblog

Im not sure how I feel about it. How will I know when my water pump is about to go or the bearings in my fuel pump are shot!

QNX Announces Pure Software Solution For In-Car Noise Reduction

Brief article - I did not realize a lot of cars are getting this. Cant be far behind for aftermarket addition for the hot rod crowd.

Soon we will be able to drive around with un-muffled exhaust blowing out the rest of the world and inside the car we can adjust a dial for how much engine noise we want ;-) Perfect!

Just thinking out loud but it seems like there is a certain safety factor involved by being able to hear certain sounds. I'd like to know what kind of "discrimination" ability this technology has.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

Lots of cars have this deal...our Caddy does. It just maintains your sound system at the level you set it against the background noise. You can still hear other things unless you are into the boom box level of noise.
A good line in 'Octane' recently.....Driving a sports car use to be like handling a powerful horse...now we 'operate' computers....

In theory, if you can detect "noise" and then reproduce that noise waveform (say through the car stereo) out of phase such that the original wave and the reproduced wave cancel each other out, then you would've effectively achieved noise suppression. Easier said than done of course...

I have some bose rip off noise cancelling headphones. They quiet the roar on an airplane and dull other noises but you can still hear everything. I cant imagine the technology could completely eliminate engine/exhaust noise.

Yep. I have a pair too for when I fly and they do help a lot. Solving the problem in a device that sits over the ear versus the entire car cabin seems a lot easier.

Active noise cancelation technology only works with continuous/repetitive sound, drone of a jet engine, tire noise at 70 MPH, etc. And the cancelation effect is highly dependent on the location of the receiving human ear. Place a anti-noise sound sensor somewhere close to the driver's head, noise cancelation will be highly effective for the driver, but less so for the passenger.

Back seat in a Cadillac? NO effect.

BOLD:Strong proof that it simply does not work.

Or maybe the salesperson didn't know/understand (like went on with ABS for so many years) and gave the wrong explanation. In any case this owner clearly does not "hear" nor notice any real advantage.

Then again Cadillac may be wise enough to target the best noise cancelation to the front seat passenger...WIFE.

Never knew a girl/woman that switched to glaspaks.....
