SC wheelspacers
I've searched previous threads to no avail, so here goes. I have a 1983 SC with the original 16x6 and 16x7 fuchs, all original panels, no accident history, ect. Is there a general consensus out there re: wheel spacer width to help fill in the wheel/tire width? I don't recall where I read or heard this, but common sizes are 7mm fronts and 21mm rears? The car has been lowered at some point, with ~25 inch front, 24.5 inch rear fender lip to ground, measuring through the center of the wheel. No rubbing currently, and it appears the fender lips have never been "rolled".

I don't have any on the front, but do have 1" (25mm) rear spacers on mine. That gives the same fender fill as the factory 16x8 wheels, and should be totally safe even on a car as low as yours. Makes a big difference in the looks.

Mine are bolt-on, CNC made by a small family machine shop in Nevada. Affordable, and good quality, not Chinese stuff.

If you wanted the same fill as the 8 inch Fuchs, wouldn't you 12mm spacers? Wouldn't it be half an inch on either side of the offset?
Or is the offset on the 8 also reduced 12mm to give you the full inch on the outside?

7's+ 1 inch spacers about equal to 8's with no spacer. The nines are about 1/4 wider on the outside than the 8's, but they magically still fit. ...or something like that. Ron Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 10-14-2013 at 04:34 AM.. |

Thanks Ron
If the 8 inch sits a full one 1 inch towards outside of the car then a reduction of half an inch in offset would be required, or about 12.5mm. Vs the 7 inch fuch. Good to know

So I would be looking for a one inch hub centric adapter and could use original lugs.

I like the look of Nineball car with the 23MM spacer as I have 7's on the back of my car. I looked up H & R spacers and they show two model's. One is a DR and the other is a DRS. Which one would best? I would prefer not to use longer studs if possible. Any suggestions? My car is a 83Sc coupe.

the drs only comes in thicknesses up to 15mm, the drm go beyond that. mine were 23mm so that means they were drm. the drs is just a spacer, so you would need to buy longer studs if using them. the drm have studs in them already.

Nineball,
Thank you for the information. I take it that perhaps went with the DRM version with studs already? Do you know where to buys these spacers locally. I am in Cleveland, Ohio. Summit Racing does not carry the H & R brand. They did not have any spacers at 23MM. Any suggestions would be great. I will check our hosts website. |

Our host carries some spacers and has studs. They didn't have the spacers I wanted. I used 14mm H&R spacers on my 88 Carrera to move 7x15 et23 Cookie cutters out 1/2" on the rear. They are spaced about like the 8x15 et10.5 Fuchs that came with the car. I had to install the longer studs that came with the spacers. I now run the Fuchs with the spacers as they are not pushed out too far. For 23mm you would need to used bolt-ons which are a lot easier to install.
PM me for an alternate source.

You might want to tell us your location, I'm in north NJ and have some various spacers you could try.

I will be looking for the DRM version as i would have the following issue.
I actually run two sets fo wheels .. okay 3 but we wont go there. The car came with gold "BBS style" and although they looked period correct for 1978 I just didnt like them. I bought a set of CUP wheels from Tirerack with 17s on them ( okay shun me all ) . The 17s offered much more variability on tires and they do fill out the wheel wells really nice and have excellent grip with a set of RE050 on them ( 7.5" front and 11 inch rear I think ) ... anywho .. I finally did find a set of reasonably priced fuchs and decided to put all seasons on these wheels as i already had a set of high performance tires on the 17s. This allowed me to have all seasons fror driving fom mid March to end of May and Late October to december in canada as high performance tires are no fun when you cant get heat into them. With having these two sets of wheels I have to be able to add adpaters for the Fuchs and remove them for my cups, If i just used spacers with longer studs I would have to remove the spacers when i put the 17s on to get them to fit and then se open nuts as the studs would be too long. so i would personally rather just take the studed adapter off and use the 17s against the rotor with original lugs. Something to consider if you change wheels as i do a couple of times a year .. Fuchs fan boys flame away ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have an 83 SC with 1 inch spacers on the back. I will probably have to trim these back to 21 MM if and when I lower the rear. When i just eye up the lowering job, I think the 1 inch could rub. I should get a fat guy to push down on my my bumper to confirm it.
They are the bolt on type and work fine and fill the wheel well out nicely. |
