Central locking problem

Has anyone ever had there central locking go out? If so, how did it do it? all at once, or slowly. I've had some weird stuff going on lately with mine. For a while it would occasionally unlock and then relock when I pulled into my drive way. Then a couple of days ago when we were having a lot of rain it did it while I was driving a couple of times. That night when I got out of work it would do it intermittently while driving (but only if the headlights were on). The next night it didn't do it at all. Today it did it a bunch, and then finally stopped working altogether. I haven't had the opportunity to see if the fuse just blew from all of the work (did I mention it's been raining a lot). So anyway. I'm hoping the fuse blew and I just need to find out what's loose or shorted, but I guess it's possible that the module just died completely.

while although I'm not familiar with this locking system, thinking about some basics, it sounds like a loose wire/ground, or a short. The reason I say this is that I'm sure there is a relay somewhere in the locking harness or module, and it keeps getting hit with an on/off voltage. One on/off voltage cycle--the relay goes to the "open door" circuit. Another on/off voltage cycle--the relay goes to the "close door" circuit. Etc.

Maybe you can find out if there is an accessible/replacable relay in this system and this try replacing this. But it could be a non-serviceable part and part of a locking "module" that needs replacement. But first check for loose wiring/grounds.

I suppose you could get ahold of a wiring schematic circuit for this system, search for a relay, take a look at that component, and then follow wires from that point.

good luck
Jay

Just a WAG, but in my 88 Targa I noticed that the wire bundle that goes from the car into the door (near the top of the door) was being rubbed by the door every time it was closed to the point that some wires were stripped bare of insulation and ripe for intermittent shorts (although mine never did before I noticed and fixed it). Probably a long shot, but it might be worth checking into - just open the door and look.

Damn, I bet that's it since at first it seemed to be an issue with only turning left while hitting a bump etc...., and I bet at this point I've fried something, crud, crud, crud
Thanks
