which tires for my 911 ?

Going crazy trying to buy the best street and/or autocross tires for my 73 Porsche

has flat 6s and I'm told 205 60 R15 is best or maybe a 195 in the front.

I know there are several brands but plain street tires aren't quite enough

any input would be appreciated!

Good luck!

The selection in 15s is slim.

You are going to have to decide on summer only autocross sticky gummy no rain at all tires or all season tires.

I have 7s & 8s and 15 inch tires are slim to none. I need 225 50 15s for the rear. I drive on the highway on long trips and in the rain. I can't do autocross tires.

G-Force Rival:

I have a '73 as well - but I use special 7" fuchs (Weidman) with 225/45. The issue you might not care for is the diameter - 205s and 225s are around 23", not the stockish 25" height.... (think lower CG?).

However, they are excellent autocross tires - significantly better than the Toyo R1Rs I just used up. If you're an AXer, this is what I suggest for this car.

good luck,

Yokohama makes a 205/60/15 Advan A048
This is the best. Streetable track and competition.

Bob is right - it's a better comp tire. I had assumed other things not in evidence.

A bit pricey though. I'm running Nitto Extreme Performance NT450 but they are 205/55/15. Nitto does not make a 60 series. It's a wet/dry performance tire and they are half the price of the Advan.

205/50/15 on your 6x15s best size for ax. Street use? See the training wheels thread! You'll need them. Very low!

thanks for all the feedback- very helpful. I used to run BF Goodrich G-force but they stopped making 205 60 15s for some reason- great tire for the price

a friend also mentioned the Yokohama S-drive in a 205 55 15....but really mixed reviews

anyone using these for awhile and can advise?

What are you looking to do with your car? Much of answer will rest on this?

I ran 205/55-15 on my 911 and they worked fine. Because that are shorter than the stock size (smaller outside diameter), your Speedo reads high, your ODO reads low and your shift points are (at times) a bit odd.

Hey Harry- I'll be doing lots of spirited driving, canyon carving, some autocross and some touring.

I'm not really concerned about speedo accurracy or if my odo is off a bit

thanks

You might want to look at a 195/65-15 tire. Tire Rack shows some interesting selections.
