What does an oil change run on a c2? A buddy of mine is looking at a 90 model and was wondering about this. Is there anything special he should be looking for on this year model, good or bad? The car has 57000 mile and hes looking to pay 29500.
Thanks |

An oil change should run about $115 - $150. The factory interval is 15K miles but nobody follows that. I change mine every 5000-7500 miles depending on how it's been driven.
I would do a search for specific info on the 964, especially 89-92 models. Things to have checked during a PPI is condition of dual distributor belt (as well as whether the car has the vent kit), oil leakage from cylinder heads, and whether the flywheel has been upgraded to the Luk flywheel (part # ends in -02). I would also check whether the idle is steady AFTER the car has been test driven (i.e., a hot restart). Some 964's seem to have a problem with bouncy idle speeds after a hot restart, and it can be a very frustrating problem to diagnose. I had this problem on mine, which was fixed by a $15 ground strap and a new battery. Others haven't been able to solve this problem as quickly. It's not a common problem, but it can be easily overlooked. The good about the 964 is more power compared to prior 911's, ABS, dual airbags, better A/C compared to prior 911's, and incredible brakes. The bad are a few additional maintenance issues (more complex car) and routine maintenance is more expensive. Unless the car your friend is considering is a cabriolet, $29.5K sounds too high by several thousand, IMO. Drew 92 C2 |

I think the 1993 and late 92 964s are by far the best of the 964s. As far as I know the factory had eliminated all the annoying problems on these later cars.

I have a '90C4Cab with some oil leaks, no A/C operation (bad climate control unit ?) bad top motor cable, etc. Anyway, I got it a few mos. ago at $22k so your '90 seems too high. I have 72k miles.
BTW: I have taken my other Porsche Cab 993 to Jiffy Lube several times for an oil chnage and it's not anywhere near $100 Patrick |

964 oil + filter about $70, same as the earlier ones. using dino oil. 3k intervals.
993 oil + 2 filters and synthetic oil about $150. it takes about $60 worth of labor time @$80hr and $70 worth of oil and $20 for 2 filters. |
