Any generic - other maker plug wires to fit an early 911 ?

Hi

has anyone come across a set of plug wires of another brand of car that will fit an early 911 ,

It would be nice to know if say a Toyota or Ford wire set could be used if you are on the road and need them and the parts store does not have 911 ones,

so at least the wires are as long,
they plug into a distributor cap ,
and the end that goes on the spark plug is long enough , but not too long
the ends can just be rubber, does not have to be baklite

it could use the threads on the plug to hold them on or the screw on plug end piece,

I have a set of plug wires off of "something" and the ends work on 4 of the cylinders , but the end is too long on the other two and it hits the side of the body......

The round "biscuit" thingy seals the plug in the valve cover, you want to retain that.

does that "biscuit" keep the motor cooler or is it mostly to keep dirt etc from falling down the hole ?

Wires are too critical to shake and bake. The donut seals the air and keeps out debris. Things can fall in the hole and you won't know. When you remove a plug someday that thing will drop into your motor and you will destroy the motor. In other words use the oem they look better and are engineered for the job

Things fall in the hole of many other cars too, and they have some kind of boot to keep them out if its a Hemi style head , thats what I was thinking would be a aprt you could buy when on the road away from a porsche shop.....

Wires are similar to 1987-1992 16v VW GTI/Jetta GLI. Have not confirmed cross fit personally.

Not sure why your so worried about sourcing plug wires while on the road.

How often would a whole set of wires fail? that would leave you having to go to FLAPs and try and get a set of wires made for some other manufacturers application fit a 911?

If your worried about having to suddenly replace a wire set while on a road trip, carry a spare set of OEM, Clewetts, or Magnecores....they take up very little room

Or just have a good set of wires on the car to begin with...

Hi

part of asking is just to know ,

but as a general information question because I am sure the 1000s of people on this forum with a 911 do not carry any extra set of plug wires ,

and now with smart phones they can look up an answer on here and get out of trouble

I have learned many things reading old threads

When I replaced my wires/cap/rotor, I simply bagged up the old parts (they worked) and kept them in my onboard dufflebag of tools, extra oil, etc.

If you are concerned about your existing set, replace them, and keep them as a spare.

Some owners may not have noticed the "Porsche tax" and assume that a set of $300 wires is somehow "better."

... it's funny with plug wires especially. Very common practice to have a proprietary plug end that jacks the price up (genuflect to manufacturer so they can drink champagne) and then some off the shelf spool of wire that other makes of vehicles also use. GM 9mm quality plug wires for a V8: $39 brand new.

What ever happened to the "old days" when you bought 25 feet of wire...clipped on some ends...and drove down the road?...LOL
Advanced technology is not always better...how sad.

Well the "Porsche Tax" has always been there , since 356 time when a part was 2x=3x more than the same part with a VW number ,

and yeah I would LOVE to find a V8 motor set of plug wires that would fit a 911 for $39.......or even a V6 motor
