Engine cover latch
I believe that you can remove the muffler and be able to reach up to the rubber skirt that goes between the body and engine. From there, use an L shaped tool to reach thru and push the latch to the left side. That should release the lid. The only problem might be getting some of the old exhaust bolts out. Good luck!

should have failed in the open position. if the cable is too tight or too loose, the latch goes toward open. wiggle the tail around.
