My '83 sc just turned over 100k
I imagine some of you guys have past this milestone a LONG time ago. I think I might celebrate by ordering a 930 steering wheel upgrade. Question: what would YOU do to celebrate this, essentially, breaking in period??
|
I think its going to fall apart so you should sell it to me!:D:D:D
|
I got my 79 smogged Saturday at 196,000 still passes.
|
Welcome to the century club. I bought mine with 119K on her but now has 148K.
|
S2GART, thanks. I bought mine last November and I LOOK for reasons to go out for a drive, even if it's just a run to the store for milk. Got it with 95k miles... Now that it's hit 6 digit mileage, it can be considered a daily driver and not a garage queen, right?!
This is the first Porsche, hopefully of many, in my life.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/2ar15.gif |
Driving and good maint. is what the Dr. ordered. My '83 SC was going strong at 230k unopened when I swapped it out for an '83 euro motor.
I go for 'drives' that end up being 100-150 miles because I love the 911 experience, never tires me and am always sad to put it up. |
Awesome! Keep driving it everyday. About to roll 312k on my '81. They go a long time!

mine is showing 266k....it would be nice to have been there for every one of them :)
|
Take a picture. Or a few pictures. Fill it and go for a drive.
A steering wheel would be fine. I have a Momo that I like. |
Celebrate?
You could clean completely the underside of the car including the engine. I mean, toothbrush stile. That will make her happy. :D |
Great ideas, all. This winter I intend to drop the engine for the first time to fix all oil leaks (is that even possible?), adjust valves and just generally inspect/repair as needed. I will certainly scrub and polish every facet of the gem that is the engine prior to reinstallation...
It may even tempt me to install SSI's and a M&K muffler to wake her up a bit:) |
Congrats. I had to rebuild at 145K due to a few broken head studs.
|
While you have the engine out inspect the CIS rubber for any cracks.
Our cars like to be driven. I drove my 83 to the store this afternoon, just because I like to drive it. |

Change the oil...and never use aftermarket filters. 100K?...does not sound like that car has seen much of the light of day...
Also...always let the oil come up to operating temperature before you start to hammer it on the road... |
I was thinking about seafoaming mine to clean out some of the lines... Any thoughts on seafoam?

My 1973 has 239,000 miles. Engine 129,000 and still perfect. I have driven it 120,000 in 13 years. Great car.
|
300,000 and running strong
+1 on the 930 Steering wheel.
If anyone has one for sale shoot me a message. My 1980 US 911sc has 300k and the engine is unopened and top end is original. Non pressure fed Chain tensioners and no pop-off valve. Love this car. |
Get that poor thing out and drive it more! ;)
See if you can get it up to 3,500 miles per year. I just turned 150,000 miles on my 1985. So I have an average of 5,175 miles per year. |
