Dyno Day
Okay guys,
I'm going to take my '76 930 into a local 2wd Dyno shop. This shop specializes in Mitsubishi cars and are knowledgeable about tuning cars. The Dyno will have a wideband o2 sensor set up as well. I'm still fairly new with the Porsche market and my recently purchased '76 Porsche 930. It has quite a few modifications from the previous owner. It has a K-27 turbo and an adjustable wastegate for me to increase/decrease turbo boost as well as the B&B exhaust. It also has a 1 bar boost spring. Still has the factory 3.0 motor that was rebuilt recently. My baby runs real strong!! My "butt" dyno tells me that it may be a 12 sec. 1/4 mile car at the 2,800 lbs. I'll be dialing in at. My question is: Are there any tips I should be aware of when dyno'ing my '76 930?? I will try to monitor the air/fuel ratio via wideband O2 sensor. In essence they will stick a probe into the tailpipe and monitor how rich and lean my car is running. My philosophy in the past with my other turbodriven race cars is: If it's running lean then decrease boost. If it's running rich, I can increase boost. Of course, I wouldn't go past 1.2 bar boost. What are all your thoughts?? Please, any tips you can provide would be greatly appreciated since I'm new with the Porsche market !!! Thanks in advance!!

I don't know if it is intercooled but if it were my motor I wouldn't even turn up the boost if it wasn't intercooled. I personally wouldn't go over 1 bar ever.

If you're running 1bar with no intercooler the engine's life is gonna be REAL short.
1 bar WITH an intercooler is MAX on these cars. Any more and you need hi-octane fuel, 7th injectors, twin pluggs, or some other band-aid.

thanks for the clarification, guys. So i better stay under 1bar. By the way, I only use 100 octane unleaded race gas...even for everyday driving purposes. I try to play it safe.

I forgot to mention that I have no intercooler whatsoever on my '76 930........hopefully in the near future, I'll try to add an intercooler.
