Question SC turn signal won't cancel

Bought and installed a new turn signal/headlight flasher stalk on my '83 SC, and it works just fine, other than the fact that it won't self-cancel a turn signal as you center the wheel. I have to do it manually, and the stalk movement is relatively stiff and makes an audible mechanical "clack" when I do it. Is this typical of that era, or did I do something wrong in the installation? (I never drove the car before tearing it apart, so I don't know how an SC typically acts.)

Turn signal lever on my 83 is clunky too. But it self cancels ok. Do you have stock steering wheel? There is a ring with a tab on it, I had to transfer to Momo hub when I changed wheel.

There should be a ring attached to the steering wheel inside that cancels it. It may be that it is broken or not properly aligned. At least my 86 carrera had that.
When I changed steering wheels to a momo I had to remove the ring and attach it to the new steering wheel to make it work

If you have changed your steering wheel, check if this tab is on the correct side. It can be mounted in 3 different positions as far as I remember.

Cool

The tab should be against the switch mechanism. When the wheel returns to straight ahead it will cancel the switch.

Good luck,

I have the ring with the tab on it on my car, and it is intact and installed correctly, but the nub it hits on the turn signal switch is broken.
My right cancels, but the left does not.

If that is your case, a new switch is in order. You can see how it works if you remove the wheel and look closely at the switch while turning the wheel with a signal on.

Good luck.
