Front Control Arm Fastener Length
I have a question about the three bolts that secure the cap over the front of the control arm to the chassis. PET lists these fasteners as 10 x 35, and that is indeed what was installed in my car (10 x 45 for 930s).
However, when test fitting my new ER Spherical Control Arm Bearings (see photo), I noticed that 10mm thickness of the bearing carrier/mount results in the two rear bolts receiving much less purchase on the threads than the front bolt. So I'm wondering if a longer bolt is recommended for the two rear locations (either 40 or 45mm) to make up for the 10mm lost by the bearing mount. Note that the steel OEM mount is also 10mm thick at this point, so this issue is not unique to the ER part. I measured the depth of the hole with the cap in place, and it is 50mm deep (with the threads stopping at about 40mm), so there is plenty of room for a longer fastener here. Also, do all three bolts for the cap receive both lock and flat washers? When I removed my original suspension, only the front bolt had both washers, with the two rear bolts having only lock washers. PET is not clear on this. Perhaps the flat washer was left out on the rears to compensate, in part, for the bearing mount thickness? ![]()
