Shocks & Brakes
Honor to Vets today! Thanks for your service.
Gents, I'm refreshing/rebuilding a 912E (1976) and looking for some advice/feedback on shock availability, Bilistein, Koni are the obviously best choices, big ticket entry fee too...Kill Your Backs are only $38 each, and though I am needing to start pinching a bit on the budget, I cant imagine these being worth my time. I'm looking at the Sachs (boge?) option as a mid priced alternative, but dont see much feedback on them. Rock auto has them for about $98. Also need some brake feedback, with all the years, derivatives and options, I'm a bit confused (what else is new on this car). I'm looking at a set of rear Zimmerman rotors for a 76 911, will these fit? The part # for the 912E is different. I know the 912E ran on the same chassis as the 911, but had solid rotors front & rear. Final question, I'd like to upgrade to vented rotors up front, will this just mean getting pads for vented rotors, or will I need to swap out the calipers too? I know this is the 911 forum, but is also a larger forum with tons of advice. Thanks! Any experience with these? any other experiences? Thanks. FWIW, I have a build thread on the 914 World forum as the engine is prety much a 914 Motor. If you care to look, check it out at: 914World.com - The fastest growing online 914 community!

if you put vented disc you have to swap calipers or put the spacer to fit your vented disc.

KYBs are just junk compared to the Bilstiens or Konis. One of the cases where you do get what you paid for.
Save your nickles and buy the Bilstiens. You are driving a Porsche, not a Kia.
