Really huge spacers?
Greetings!
I knew there was some funny business going on when I bought this car (82sc), but it was cheap and I needed a new project. As you can see in the following photo, the wheels stuck out quite far: ![]() I finally got the car up in the air to finish the AC tear out (my favorite first task on a sport car). Here are some pics of the biga$$ spacers I found: ![]() ![]() The front spacer measures 1 1/8", the rears 2 3/16"!! No wonder the wheels stuck out so bad. My questions are: Is it common to run some sort of spacer? If so what is the preferred size to run, front and rear? The wheels are 7" and 8" Fuchs 16". Thanks for your replies!! Carter |

No spacers are needed, if you run the correct wheels. Have another look at the wheels and see what sizes you have and what part numbers they are. The fronts look like 6" and I can't tell from the photo what size rears that you have.

If you run 7" and 8" you may don't need any spacers. I run 6" and 7" and use 1/4" spacers in the front and 1" in the back. Try first without the spacers and do an alignment, corner balance and height adjustment. See how you like the look and go from there. Rigth now you can not lower the car without serious rubbing.

javadog,
Thanks for the reply. Hope all's well in T-Town. I'll be out there for the holidays, around the 20th 'til after new years day. To answer: I measured the wheels yesterday, and 7" front, 8" rear is what I came up with. I'll go get some numbers today. The wheels are very dirty inside. What was the finish on the inside of the wheels for sc vintage Fuchs'? Carter |

Carter,
The wheels were probably black on the inside. Now they are probably a dark brown from brake dust and that's a ***** to remove. Most likely you have 6 and 7 inch wheels but I was curious if you might have any 944 wheels on the car. The part numbers will tell all. JR |

The inner barrels on the Fuchs are painted satin black.

An Sc/Carrera body car can use oe;
front 6ET 36, 7ET23.3 w/o spacers in 15 or16" these will have 911 or 951 part #s rear 7ET23.3, 8ET10.6 w/o spacers these will have 911 part #s for the most part but the 7" rears could be 951 too. aftermarket Fuchs options front 8ET23.3, 951 wheels, w/o spacer, these are a poor fit in front but have been used they are extremely tight at the lips rear 9ET15 w/o spacers these are 930 wheels and some even use a small spacer w/ them 8ET23.3 951 wheels will need ~10-12mm spacer in back of an SC/Carrera The front spacers in the pics appear to be 930.341.611.00 which are used on early 930 front, 21mm thick the rears may be 930.331.911.04 which were used on 930s, ~54mm If you can find part #s on the spacers as well as the wheels we can determine what they are, the rear wheels definitely stick out too far

Thanks all for the replies.
I checked #s on the wheels yesterday. Fronts: 6Jx16 Rears: 7Jx16 All have 911 part numbers. I didn't get numbers off the spacers, but they are all H&R branded. The measurements originally posted for the spacers are accurate. The fronts are more than 1" thick, so 26mm+. The rears are greater than 51mm. I take it that I'm safe in ditching these, backspace-wise. They're currently soaking in PB Blaster. Carter |

Yes, feel free to get rid of all of the spacers. Not needed.

A common upgrade is moving the rear 7s to the front w/ 205/50 or 205/55 tires and purchasing 8ET10.6 rears w/ 225/50 tires or 9ET15 rears w/ 245/45 tires, no spacers for any of these.

Technically, those aren't spacers, those are adapters.
I have 1" hubcentric spacers on the rear of the my 88 Carrera, 8x16 wheels, and to me it is just right. The tire just hugs the radius of the fender with no rub.....
