Backdate pedal support?

Is it true the that the foot pedals design was changed in 1978 with the introduction of a brake servo? If so, was the pedal support in the floorpan changed also?

If an owner of a post-78 911 wants to remove the brake servo and use early pedals, does it require backdating the pedal support in the floorpan? Looks difficult (tunnel removal?). Or is there another way around this?

See pic below to show you what I mean (not mine, just a pic I found from some website)

It was changed in 1977. To backdate it to the earlier version you need several things. This is a somewhat generic version, as Porsche changed the pedal cluster in many small ways during the 1970's.

Old style brake master cylinder.
New brake lines from the master cylinder to the front calipers and to the rear brake line that runs through the tunnel.
New brake pedal.
Pushrod parts (4) from pedal to master cylinder.
Brake light switch.
Wiring revisions to accomodate new switch.
Brake fluid reservoir, tubes and grommets.
Plugs for the booster metal line through the tunnel and bulkhead.

You can keep the rest and no revisions are needed to the floor.

Correct if I'm wrong, I think in early 911 cars, the brake master cylinder was located directly behind the pedal (or near) whereas in post-77 911's the master cylinder was located higher up in the front trunk (very long pushrods between the pedal and master cylinder)

So, if I get an old-style master cylinder, where would this be located in the late car?

The master cylinder sits directly in front of the pedal assembly (a straight push from the pedal engagement point), and is bolted through the floorboard and pedal assembly). Getting an early pedal assembly should make it quite straightforward to make the change.
