87 g50 carrera questions

Picked up a new car, needs some sorting....it's a very straight 87 g50 carrera, 110,000 miles, previous owner was a small-time mechanic, seemed to do ok work, but the car has had some deferred maintenance. Torn cv boots warped brake rotor....

So, I'm getting those things resolved, it in new axles complete, recently replaced the motor mounts and trans mount beam with wevo black units.

The car has felt like it had bad motor mounts, excessive driveline movement when I shift, or ease on or off the throttle. The new motor mounts didn't fix it, I wondered if maybe excessive wear on the cv joints could cause it, but the new units didn't fix that either.

So, now I'm wondering if it could be in the clutch or r&p, or elsewhere in the gearbox. Any thoughts? I've been driving it pretty gently.

Sounds like the rubber center of clutch disk has come apart causing the clutch center to lock up metal to metal. It has a couple inches of play before it locks up making it feel like everything in the car is loose. It just happened to to my wife's Targa. Many of the rubber centered clutch disks have been replaced but we still had one.

I'll call the previous owner, he stated he just replaced the clutch, of course he had also stated he had just replaced the cv joints, even after I pointed out 3 ripped boots....

Don't you hate people who lie to you with a straight face even in the face of contrary evidence. Why bother calling him. Drop the engine.
