Black is my new White

for years, the ideal 911 color for me has been white, and the ideal 911 has been the 87-88 G50 Carrera coupe. Two years ago, I sold my nearly perfect white '88 to add capital to my business. This year, I started looking for a replacement.

What a difference a couple of years makes! The cars are now incredibly rare. After a couple of months of frustration, I found a black 1987 coupe. Having owned a black car in the past (not a Porsche), I swore never to do so again because the are so incredibly hard to keep clean. But this car was very nice--104K miles, very straight (a high quality repaint) spoilers, very nice Fuchs. So I bought it and drove it home from Kansas City to Seattle.

And you know what? After several months, I'm really liking the black. Changes the whole look of the car--much more sinister. Unfortunately, the sun really brings out the micro-scratches in the paint, but the sun never shines here in Seattle anyway.

Pointless thread, perhaps, but hey, if somebody has a white G50 coupe they want to sell, give me a shout!

Terry

Hmm.... my two sporting type cars are black(Alltrac) and white(911).

Maybe I should try for gray next....

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.

I looked for a long time for a white G50 coupe for myself. They are out there, but quite pricey as you already know. I found a Prussian Blue coupe in excellent mechanical shape but needing a complete interior, lots of electrical work and paint/body. I had Ray at BTO Autoworks do a bare metal, glass-out respray in Grand Prix White. I know it will hurt the value someday, but don't care. It's gorgeous. Sadly it's sleeping the winter away right now.- Matt

White might be easier to keep clean. But black is more fun to get dirty.

Congrats on your new car Terry. I have a couple black cars and I love them. Living down south I try to keep mine waxed to protect the paint. I think it also helps keep them clean. Good luck.

I looked for a coupe for a while and really felt I "settled" for white. Almost every other color shows off the curves better in my opinion. I like earlier chrome trim cars in white, and love 60's sportscars of all stripes, especially italians, in white, but the plastic trim impact bumper cars... still not my first choice. I do love everything else about it though!

Red interior really sold me.
