Any recommendations for a lightweight carpet kit for a 83 911sc?
It's a race car, but I'm trying to make the interior a little less racey looking without adding much weight. Sound deadening isn't an issue, but I don't like the bare metal floor look.
I've been on ebay but I can't really tell what's what for fit and quality. Is Perlon the material I should be looking for. Any suggestions? |

Lightweight carpeting
Person would be your best option if you want light weight. I'd check with Auto's Intl. or AppBiz. Otherwise, you could probably cut your own pieces using the original carpeting pieces as patterns.

I have a new set I've never used. I have another guy wanting to look at it today but if he doesn't buy it, I can send you some photos. It's black and weighs next to nothing.

Here's what I have. It weighs 4-1/2 pounds in total.

RS carpet kit from appbiz. You'll need a heavier one for the driver as the RS carpet will wear fast unless you wear driver shoes. I use a coco mat.

Do they just glue in? This is for a racecar application. Not worrying too much about wear/tear.
Java? Which kit is that? |

I don't know who made it. I bought it a few years ago from a local shop. Don't know where they bought it from...

used lightweight carpet in my coupe. If you don't glue it in it slides around and is a real pain....
Have you considered Rhino liner? |

get Sliver knit carpet and don't put anything under it. Sliverknit is like a Mohair sweater. It was used on oe interiors but w/ heavy backing.
If you are ok w/ the color choices Appbiz has decent prices if you want other colors, Lakewell in Belgium has all the factory carpet sets. When I bought they were a bit on the expensive side but the $ is stronger now and that may help.

Forgot to add that you can also buy Sliverknit by the yard from a couple of places, I bought some dark blue from the 928 Shoppe in Detroit(I think that they have since changed their name, but they do quality interiors in all cars)The material was great but the color was slightly off from the oe in either of my cars. Lakewell match was perfect.

I'm currently installing my appbiz kit. Just take a few dry runs before gluing. The overlaps are tight in a few places.
Overall I am happy with the quality and support.

Appreciate all the info guys. I went with the dark charcoal perlon from Appbiz. Ordered their RSA door panels too while I was at it. It's a race car and I just wanted something that doesn't weigh much in a reasonably dark color to cover the tub. The original owner rattle canned it black and it kind of looks not so good now. Not that it really matters in a race car, but I like the RS carpet look.
