Restored Racing 72S seen yesterday..
I am local to Atlanta, which is hosting the IWF - International Woodworking Machinery and Furniture Supply Fair. One of my hobbies is woodworking so I spent the day there yesterday. I hadn't been there but a few minutes, turned a corner, and saw a beautiful 911S on the showroom floor! I talked to one of the company reps about it, ends up the company founder has owned it for several years. The windshield placard identified it as winning the 24 Hours at Daytona (GTU class) in both '76 and '77, and finishing second in the 12 Hours at Sebring. It's had a ground up restoration in '98, to its racing condition of '76. I got permission to take some pictures.

For What It's Worth: "The Porsche team of Bob Hindson, of Kansas City, Mo. was first in GTU having completed 495 laps and finishing eighth overall. Hindson collected a $2,000 bonus for his class win." -Porsche Panorama, page 6, April, 1976.

For What's it's worth II:
The car came in 7th overall after starting 72nd at the 12 Hours of Sebring / March 18, 1978. It was entered by El Sol Racing waring number 42 and drive by Chiqui Soldevila / luis Gordillo racing 213 laps of the winners 240 which was the Dick Barbour Racing 935 driven by Brain Redman / Bob Garretson / Carles Mendez Back to ya Paul :-) I LOVE MY NEW SEBRING BOOK ! - Ken Breslauer All and all this (little) 72'-S was quite the kick-ass competitor, I would assume the car was a 72'-S with EVERY costomer racing option (read RSR) you could buy from the factory. What-a cool car! Chuck |

Looked again at these great pics closely, and it seems to me that the car is running 8/9” wheels instead of the RSR 9/11’s.
May be we need a better eye on this… Jack? Chuck |

I'm curious what this car was doing between 1972-75?? Some impressive wins beginning in 1976. I wonder if what we see now is how the car left the factory in 72 or if the RSR-like mods came later or was this a standard S converted for racing in 1976? Anybody know? Also, the US spec headlights are interesting? -- Curt
