I've fitted my new air filters at last - any thoughts, probelems, how much will this affect mixture etc?

Since fitting my filters yesterday, I've noticed popping and banging through the carbs - why?

Not sure what you had before-stock? but, I would think with those that your running much leaner.

You may need to fiddle with the mixture, but also keep in mind that if you go to an exposed foam or gauze filter setup from a factory metal airbox, you will be hearing a lot more of whatever was going on there before. The big enclosed plenum of the stock airboxes really attenuate the noise of the induction quite a bit.

Cool

Popping noises? I believe that those are noises of the valves working in the airstream. The type of aircleaners you have installed will let you hear noises you've never heard before. The music will grow on you.

Good luck,
David Duffield

Yep, its music alright and I did have a stock system before (she's a 2.2T). I fitted two very short straight thru silences a few weeks ago so I suspect it is running rather lean.

Next step is a dyno set-up.

Thanks guys!

Steve,
Try backing out each idle mixture screw 1/8 turn and see if it makes any difference. If the filters created a lean condition, this will richen it up a bit and reduce the spit-back. Proceed with further tuning based on what happens next.
