Question Front wheel bearing spacer &o-ring?

I changed my front right wheel bearings last weekend. When I took everything apart I found the spacer & o-ring was misssing. So- is the spacer and o-ring really neeeded? I realize that the seal has nothing to seal against (to keep dirt out). I am not sure what the other side looks like but I would assume it is the same.

If it's the piece I'm thinking of , yes!. It is not supplied w/ new struts and is often forgotten when installing same. One of our local racers put new struts on his car w/o that piece and was wondering where all the grease was coming from and he knows his stuff. Easy mistake to make.
