I have just had my fuel injectors cleaned and the following occurred to me.
When it comes to refitting the injectors, the holes in the intake manifolds where they fit are likely to be as dirty as the o-rings were when I removed them. A couple of the rings had oil on them (these where on the right side of the engine) and a couple had general grime a little like limescale. One of them has a small split in it. My (limited) understanding is that the o-rings need to seal in order to keep a vacuum but unless the holes are clean this will be a bit hit and miss. How can I clean the holes in the intakes without crud falling into the intakes themselves? I could use a vacuum cleaner to suck any lose debris up. Should I then try and clean the holes further with petrol and a brush? This would seem to guarrantee some crud going in to the intakes. I have scoured Bentley and the board but cant find anything specific to cleaning prior to refitting the injectors. Maybe I'm worrying about nothing. Can anyone please advise? Andy |

I wouldn't worry about a little crude going into the intake. I would not use a vacuum where gasoline (or any flammable liquid) might be sucked in. Fuel->air+fuel->vac electric motor in confined space=exploding vacuum.
