Thumbs down Smoke in front of car....

After driving my car for about 20 minutes or more I notice smoke comes out of the passenger side front wheelwell. The car drives great and the guages look normal. Could this be the oil cooler? I was not running the hvac so I know it is not a motor burning up. Any ideas?

What did the smoke smell like and how long did it smoke? You've got a few possibilities -- mainly the front oil cooler and your right front wheel. Any noise involved? Could be something rubbing you tire. I got a hunk of styrofoam stuck in my Bimmer's fan once.

Water being thrown on hot oil cooling loop? Car parked outside overnight with condensation on loop?

Really it is the smoke "type" that will tell. Water is less thick, disappears quickly. Oil smoke is bluer, and sticks around.

I can't see how even a leaking oil cooler would smoke. Does it get hot enough?

My right front wheel well emits steam when it's all warmed up after driving in the rain.

It was raining lightly today on the way to work, but I am sure it was not raining the other day when it did the same thing.

I'd guess friction from the tire or maybe something electrical. It's hard to imagine street driving leading to the front cooler getting hot enough to even generate very much steam, let alone smoke. Be careful.

Another guess is oil spewing from your cooler onto your scorching hot brake rotors...NOT GOOD if I'm right on that (hope not)...

Everytime I drive my car in the rain I see steam eminating from the front passenger wheel well. Are you positive the oil cooler wasn't wet???

Well, it seems to have stopped raining and I am finally going to leave work and go home! I hope that when I get home there is no smoke/steam. Maybe it was just the rain getting on the cooler like some of you have experienced.
