1985 911 TargaWindow comes out of rail

Hi,
I am wondering how the passenger window is secured to the upper rail. Mine is currently sitting in the rail with nothing holding it in. Is there a bracket or screw that is loose??
Thanks, Rob

Define "upper rail". Not sure what you mean.

The window sits in a channel (which I called the rail). It is currently just sitting in there by gravity. I am wondering how to attach the window to the channel that it sits in.

Can you post a pic of what you're talking about? I just put my doors in my Cabriolet together and might be able to help you out if I'm certain of the rail you're talking about. If it's the track in the vent window. There are screws inside the door that adjust the angle of the window. You can adjust the door glass to go into the rail more and level out how it meets to the rear vertical seal and the seal on the Targa top.

I'm out working on my car today so if you post a pic, P.M letting me know you posted pics. I have thread notifications turned off because my inbox would be full of messages from threads I've subscribed to.

The window sits in a u-shaped rubber channel that in turn sits in the metal one. It's basically just friction, and maybe a little rubber glue, holding it together.

the channels can rust out and "relax", so there is no grip on the rubber. one quick, cheap fix for that is to use sikaflex 292 and bed the glass into the channel without the rubber. won't ever come loose again. best get the glass in the right place, front to rear before it sets up.

I used shoe goo for this problem and it worked great. My channel was in good shape, but the rubber was shot. Shoe goo gave me time to set it and it has held for the last couple years. Based on other applications, I would assume it is removable with some effort and a sharp exacto.

+1 use some lite adhesive, if as John W wrote the channel is relaxed, just bend them back to help hold the glue and glass in place.

Yes, please take care where you place it you do not want that misaligned, you will have unwanted wind noise.

My current issue is the channel moves forward and aft on its on during the roll up process, I have to physically push it forward so it will not pop out of the quarter window channel guide. very annoying.

Need to re-align yet again :-o

Be advised that there is a measurement for the glass, in terms of where the leading edge of the bottom of the glass is in relation to the end of the window channel. It's different for the early and late regulators. I don't remember it off of the top of my head.
