Cleaned up my 74....turbo withdraw

So, I have not posted much in the 911 forum, but im sure some of you have seen my turbo thread, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/644689-no-idea-what-im-doing-complete-winter-overhaul-begins.html , in my quest to build a RWB replica...

I recently picked up a 1974 911 that I could drive and enjoy while finishing up my other project, basically I was going through Porsche withdraw....

pics of engine the day I picked it up. Its a 3.0 that was built my Bruce Abbott two years ago.

It was a little messy and not really my style, so decided to take the last three weeks to clean it up a bit,...

Cleaned and rebuilt carbs
Sandblasted engine tins and painted
Stripped Valver covers and painted
Painted Engine Shroud
Removed all CIS wiring that was left
PMO fuel pressure regulator, waiting on more correct german fuel line
Painted fan and housing
New Coil, moved to engine mount bar (singer style:D)
New Clewett wires
rebuilt CDI box
NOS weber 40IDA jet screens (very expensive)
New stacks with filters
Rennline strap
New Pierburg fuel pump (ditched the 30$ facet)
New B&B heat exchangers and exhaust

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388343378.jpg

Added duck tail with polished engine lid grille
added polished 911 badge
Painted rear center reflector
Waiting on US spec tails with Chrome trim
stripped rear stone guard and shaved rear bumper, fresh paint

Nice work as usual bud, I see you got rid of the Pony car.

Gene Smith 12-29-2013 11:27 AM

First Class! It should sound sweet with those open stacks.

Looking great Jim,

Is the RWB clone in the other thread the flat black turbo that had the duck?

weseeeee 12-29-2013 01:36 PM

Nice work! Looks like it's ready to hit the street.

Look great. Where did you source the filters for the stacks?

Thanks Jim. So is there actually an air filter element or just a mesh top?

Great... After I spend a coupe of hundreds to go from Rain Hat to Race Top, more $$ to keep your economy going... :)

Good looking car. Glad I'm not the only one without a 10,000 sf laboratory perfect looking garage. Propane heater looks familiar too. Been exercising mine lately.

Please excuse the condition of my garage, its never this messy, only during projects,...

and yea, I have two of those heaters running at the same time and it really warms up the garage! Cant beat it for 28$. And im not using my BBQ in the winter anyway,...:D

porsche930dude 01-01-2014 02:11 PM

i thought the coil is supposed to be mounted upside down for some reason. Maybe look into that before running it too much

I like the look of the individual filters on the air horns, but one thing that always concerned me with this setup is that the float bowl vent tubes would be completely open, allowing dirt to make its way into the bowls. The K&N setup ensures the air entering the bowls passes through the filter first.

Has this been a problem for anyone with the individual filters? Perhaps little filters could be made for the vent tubes?

You need these little guys, good luck finding them, NLA from weber 20+ years ago. Very expensive. Someone on there makes them. Around 150-200$ a set.

Very cool - I didn't know such filters existed.

I'll have to search and see if I can find them available anywhere.
