Here is the 'cage' for the Ford Focus. It looks like it is much more likely to hurt you in an accident than save you - particularly if not combined with a proper harness. And to think that car companies send fortures developing soft collapsable interiors!!!

Thanks for the laugh!!

It would scare me to ride in one of those cars, and I don't scare easy.

Looks like their "closet organizer" fell out of the box on the way from Home Depot.

They look like something out of a roller coaster ride

Clark Griswald 09-05-2001 09:47 AM

Sheesssh. This takes rice to a new level.

At least they call them "styling bars", not rollbars. Probably to avoid liability when they fail to protect the occupants.

These guys are gonna make a fortune and then go out and buy Porsches...

You know what it looked like the first time I saw it?

One of those kids' toys that are made of colored wire bent into complicated shapes with wooden beads that have holes drilled through so the kids can slide them around.

Z-man 09-05-2001 10:57 AM

Those remind me of the hockey goals I used to have as a kid...

You guys are missing the point altogether.

In these Japanese rice'o'matic circles, a lot of money is invested in expensive audio (and sometime visual)equipment. The monkey bars are not designed to save lives (the original subframe of a Honda Civic has higher tensil strength than the hull of the Kursk)

The monkey bars have actually been designed to protect the upholstery, gauges and sub-woofer assemblies that are necessary for the racing circuit. God forbid, in case of a rollover during a street race that your equipment get crushed.

Well, I can tell you that those huge tachometers these guys atach to their front posts do not help them much. Most of the cars I out-pull at traffic lights have them. I suspect they are not helpful in the corners either.

Good point,

They should probably put the big-honkin tach on the passenger side pillar to counterbalance the weight of the driver.
