What's this plug from?
I found this plug behind the radio. I'm guessing it from the original radio. It has 4 wires any idea what the wires do?

I can't say what that connector is actually for but I do know that on my car (1980SC) that connector type is used on connections to fan motors i.e. the three resistor elements on the fan assembly located in the passenger foot well. The contacts are of a heavy gage for high amps. Hope this helps

Auto heat sensor.
I can't make out the color codes.
Perhaps, factory pre-wire for auto-heat. ![]()

Thanks for getting back to me. My car is an 86 Targa and I have the 2 levers and a dial in between the seats for HEAT and everything works. I think auto HEAT is just the dial. I see some of the others on the thread have 87 & 88 911s do you have auto HEAT? Not sure auto heat was an option before 87. This plug is behind the radio and I could not find anywhere to plug it in. Thanks again

Auto heat.
Quote:
Since you have levers, your car does not have the auto heat option, and therefore no sensor. You can verify the color codes from the CKT on my previous post. ![]() Good luck, Gerry

Auto heat has been around since 1976 or 1977. The sensor in the dash came along in the mid-eighties. Basically, instead of the simple sensor (above the interior mirror) that was formerly used, they installed a small fan to pull air through a grille in the dash and past a new sensor.
Starting with the cabriolets, Porsche also offered a fan control that some people mistake for the auto heat controller. In reality is just operates the heater blower fans and has three fan speeds. You still open the valves manually. The footwell heater blower fans started with the 1983 turbos. That looks like a plug for the autoheat option. It doesn't look like a radio plug. I'd have to see the wire colors a little better to identify it. JR |
