Squeezing the last life from 73 1/2 T engine
I bought a 73 1/2 911T out of California from a "reputable dealer" who said the mechanics were great. They ain't so great. Two of the cylinders are around 90 whereas the others are within 115 to 120.
The engine is hunting, or idling rough and it is running rough also with hesitation, intermittent backfiring or popping and it generally sounds bad as the exhaust seems to leading quite a bit. It seems to have dead spots in the acceleration also. Since I bent over and got the royal porsche weenie on the car, I need to stretch out the life of this engine until I get the car paid off. Short of my suicide, does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do to make this engine run a little better. Each time I take it into the prostrate mechanic, he tells me it is fine and to enjoy it----it isn't and the popping, hesitation, hunting and bad running are such that it isn't fun to drive. How about some diagnosis and advice on what I should do. Thanks in advance from buried in porsche bills in miami |

the surging problem could be do to cracked or broken air intake boots. most cars wont run or idle very well if that is true.....

I have already replaced the "airbox" to the tune of about a grand. My first problem was a blown up airbox which happened after the car backfired so bad I felt like I was in the Ia Dang valley.
Hopefully this new airbox is OK. Any other thoughts? |
