Stupid question but how does the leather shift boot stay in place on a g50?
I'm trying to put the interior on my 87 carrera back together and i'm stumped on what should be a simple DIY. I can't seem to figure out how the bottom of the shift boot stays in place on a g50 trans shifter. The bottom of the boot has an elastic cord along the circumference of the boot. Where does that wrap around? I took the console off and I see the foam insulation piece but there's no where for the boot to wrap around. Am I missing a ring or something?

Your leather boot should have a metal ring sewn into it at the bottom, same size as the foam circle, that retains it there. Do you have an aftermarket boot?

I have an aftermarket shift boot and it does not have a ring in it. Looks like I'll have to fabricate one to make this work. Thanks
