Hi Guys,

Thanks in advance. |
What year is the car and motor? It makes a difference...
The unconnected wires with the black covers on them aren't needed with carbs without warm up parts on the air intake and may be for MFI controls as well. Probably doesn't help with hooking yours up but, Picture of a new one here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/740894-building-sc-mid-year-engine-harnesses-2.html |
If it was me I would get the factory wiring diagram and start with the inhacked wires and figure out where each one goes to on my motor. I would get wires that duplicate the factory codes and get go work.

the car is a 1971

i downloaded the diagrams just have to print them on a plotter
|
still need to know where to connect the new elec. cap red and black cables

I'm curious how that 2.4/2.7 distributor can be on a 2.2?
That loose wire looks like one of the gray/red wires associated with the Zenith emission/starting enrichment stuff. Yours may have been removed long ago. Many were. |
Pretty evident he doesnt have the stuff he sent out.
Get back to as close to stock (factory) as you can..like with points. Bruce |
I have a 71T with standard distributer. I have 4 wires going to my CDI unit (versus your 5). I have a 3 prong plug with green/yellow, red and black colored wires. Also, there is a ground strap located on a prong just above the plug (where your lone red wirewith black prong protector is). Your extra wire may be for the electronic izzy.
Hope this helps Bob |
Here's a link to another thread where the guy did a nice job of installing the pertronix points while keeping it neat and being able to take it back to original at any time. It also includes a wiring diagram for using pertronix points with a CDI.

Just because it ran in a video doesn't mean the wiring they used is the same as what they sent you...
PM me, I can build you a plug and play, doubt free, brand new engine and ignition harness, with correct color wiring and connectors made for your pertronix system and carbureted 2.2 engine without stray wires this weekend... Just the ignition harness wired for pertronix is an option as well. I would properly wire and run a red and black with a "T" connector to come out near the bottom of the dizzy and I'll send you the mating connector to attach to the pertronix wires. I could even build it so you could swap back to points if you wanted. I would also provide on the phone directions to help you wire it in... It/they would be in your hands by Thursday next week... (Need to know by Saturday evening for that to happen...) Or, use the schematics and build one yourself. :) |
Along those same line, from what I've heard (reading here) just because it ran in the video doesn't mean they sent you the actual motor that was running. Doesn't mean they sent you a new functional Pertronix either. Might be simplest to get it running on points first, then mess with the Pertronix if you want. Also, you say it is a 2.2, but the distributor is later, and should not physically be capable of fitting into a 2.2 case. Maybe you should eyeball the engine SN?

This is a picture of the standard ignition harness I build.
It looks like your wiring is totally incorrect based on the colors I see in the pictures you posted. Should be built with blue/yellow, red and black wires with a special Belden braided hollow shield cable for ground. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1390084205.jpg Here is a picture of the correct engine and ignition harness together: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1390085265.jpg |
The power to the CDI on a stock ignition harness normally connects to the female connector I have circled in red from your original picture. It is switched power. Should be a red wire....

There was a recent thread you may want to check out.
