993 Aero mirrors, anyone ever build the Porsche kit?

I made a tool (ground down bolt) to fit in the spring socket but as hard as I can push I am nowhere near getting that thing in enough to turn and lock in place, and that is without any of the friction washers, which would require even MORE compression. The fine threaded screws are way too long (hold the mirror ball socket to the base), the screw that holds the clear friction plastic between the base and head is too long. Also there are two small metal pins that I have no idea where they may go, and a steel split ring. no idea. I think I may have a couple Flag bases with old springs, I may see if those work but am I crazy and doing this all wrong somehow? A breakdown of what goes where would be a godsend!

Do they have to be "stock" mirrors for E class? If not, get a pair of Genesis GT mirrors and make life easier. Genesis Side Mirrors - Racing Mirrors - Body - Chassis
