WUR repairable?

I'm sure there are alot of threads concerning CIS warm-up regulators on this board.

This is a 089 unit from my 911. Can they be repaired without rebuilding them?

Thanx. L

How about a little more info? Is it not regulating pressure correctly or not at all?

Depends on what's wrong with it. Most popular problem is high cold control pressure which can be manipulated. Something like failure of warm up sequence and/or pressure would require a rebuild. There are lots of threads on how to rig these units for short term fix.

There are also a lot of folks who will point to this little mystery device as the problem for most everything ;-) Check out the threads relating to checking the device if you're not positive it's the problem, it might not be ;-)

The previous posters have the best advice--you need to be more specific as to your issue. If you are certain the WUR is a problem, it can be adjusted, the heating element can be replaced (though it may be hard to find the exact one), the seals can be replaced, and the entrance/exit fuel ports can be cleaned. That's about it because that's about all there is to it.

The 78 911 that this one is from will crank immediately then run very rough for a few minutes.

Hooked up cis guages. Outdoor temp. low 40's

System fuel pressure: around 5 bar
cold control pressure: .7 bar
warm control pressure: no change on gauge. I did unplug the wur for the cold control reading and reconnect it with the switch on and fuel pump running to check warm control pressure.

Does it sound like a non functioning wur?

The WUR and bimetallic strip warms up over several minutes and the warm control pressure thus changes, if all is well. What is the measured resistance across the terminals?

It sounds like your WUR is kaput. The lowest temperature in the chart is 10 C, or 50 F, at which you should see control pressure between 1.0 and 1.4 bar in the 089 WUR. Warm control pressure should be 2.7 to 3.1 bar. It sounds like your cold pressure might be too low, and that the heater coil in the WUR is not working. Did you check for power to the WUR.

Your car should have an 045 or an 069 WUR, as far as I know. However, I think that the 089 will work okay.

+1 on bimetallic strip resistance. Also, you confirmed that you have 12VDC to and a ground path from WUR right?

I am new but my 82 will run around 2000 rpms for a long time like 15 mins or more. Driven almost 6 miles around town before the rpms start to come down. Maybe I am running cold? The oil temp will get well past the white line.

Depending where you are now, with the deep freeze going on around the country, the low temperatures would cause the engine to idle high and would take extra long time to get to operating temperature. But 15 mins. is excessively long even in dead winter. I suggest that you measure your cold control fuel pressures until it stabilizes and that should give you an idea how the WUR is performing. Check the AAR too. What's the ID # on your WUR?

Tony
