Air Conditioning/Fader Switch Housing

I pulled my console today to install a factory short shift kit in my 84. As I took the air conditioning/fader switch housing out, the housing cracked just above the fader switch. It cracked so easily that I suspect it was already broken, or on its way, but regardless, I have to fix or replace it. The Porsche part number is 911 552 259 03. The fader switch is not in use, as the radio has been upgraded.

I have concerns about gluing the piece, because the fader switch press-fits in, and has spring tension to hold it in place. I doubt glue will hold up against the switch's spring tension.

Pelican has these parts in its catalog:

(The part in red, above, is part number C-552-169-00. It looks to be the entire piece that cracked.)

(The part above is part number C-552-269-00)

The first part appears to be the entire assembly, while the second part appears to be a face plate. Can I just buy the face plate to cover up the hole where the fader switch sits (and also cover up the broken portion of the housing)? Since I'm not using the fader, I don't mind just removing the switch.

Thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated.

Scott,
You actually OWN a 47G?? There must be a story attached to THAT acquisition, right?

The easiest way around your problem....well, there are two that are immediately obvious:
1. Source the part from one of the many CA used part operators - these are very low interest parts, and should be very easy to find for few bones. I think they will all have the fader switch, but leaving the switch in place but inoperative is no big deal.
2. Fabricate a simple L shaped faceplate from 18g/20g aluminum, paint it with Wurth satin black, and glue it to the original part. Its a simple fab, and should look very original.

Scott,

I have a face plate cover that you can have. It's brand new and just glues on over the one you have or you can attach it with double sidded tape. I had the same problem and ended up getting three different kinds of covers. Still haven't gotten the right one with the hole in the center for the fader switch. It's just a plastic piece and cost a couple of bucks. Send me your address and I'll mail it to you.
