My 3.2 with SSIs, stainless steel, backdated exhaust with large bore pipework and AMD hotfilm kit. Recently described by a knowledgable friend as sounding more like a Ferrari Daytona than any 911 he's ever heard! (the sound was a bonus, the exhaust was installed for performance and unlike some sports exhausts it's not overbearing or intrusive even on a long drive)

Milu that sounds just like the 911 CS I rode in recently in Sweden. Same mods. Although that car did indeed sound like a 911, only louder and more screaming/aggressive. Very nice sound.
What I really like about 911s in general is the whirr-sound from the air fan. I really miss that with 996s. |

Hmm, not speaking practically I think any race tuned 911 with headers and megaphones would have to be the best sounding. Something like a '73 RS or a 2.0S that revs to 7K.

The CS is already one great if underated road car, with the hotfilm kit and exhaust I think it would show a clean pair of heels to most cars in real world conditions. I can immagine what mine would be like if it had the fighting weight of the CS. I've heard some owners say the CS was in reality 250hp from the factory instead of the regular 231, if so the ride you had in Sweden must have been some fun!!!!!!!!!!! (1150 kg and 280 bhp?)

7 grand thru open headers! Everything else is just a compromise to keep the cops/neighbors happy.

The sound of the door closing (coupe)...unlike any other car. Best appreciated on entry just prior to turning the key

Thunder Valley
Without a doubt, the sound of my humble 3.2 with test pipe and B&B pulling from 5K to 7K through Thunder Valley at Watkins Glen. The track drops down into a canyon-like hollow, with concrete walls both sides, and the sounds reverberates - hence the name!
Nothing like it, although pulling up to the heel of the Boot gets up there too. Must carry a tape recorder next time there.

The Blue Bomber at full song, inside the Mercer St. (Seattle) tunnel on-ramp to I-5.
Makes the hair on the back of neck stand up, and puts a grin on your kisser like a *****-eating dog!

The CS did indeed feel faster than my stock 231hp Carrera. The exhaust was from Dansk Autopart, but I've no idea where the MAF kit came from. The owner said he didn't know how much hp his car had but estimated it to be around 250. I think that sounds likely based on how the car felt. Maybe 255 or so, but not 280. Anyway it had an awesame sound ![]() |

Mikkel,
250 would be about right on a regular 3.2. my guess at 280 was based on the theory, (UNPROVEN), that the CS has 250 to start with. The standard CS feels a bit faster to me, certainly more than the 50kg weight reduction would suggest. The theory has it that it's due to blue printing, not the higher rev limit and hollow/sodium filled valves. Whatever. Numbers are secondary to how a car feels. Mine feels good and I bet your friend's does too. As an aside did your friend's CS have a resonance problem?
