Question Engine Saga in Central Virginia need help!

3.0 Liter from a 79 911 had only 55K on it and great compression when started leaking oil. Parked it for a few years, and when took it out found that piston 3 and five had low compression. Mechanic said it would be more expensive to have him figure out the problem than to send it to MotorMeister for a complete $5,000 rebuild. I believed him although I felt he should have just taken off the heads and looked at it first. It went of to CA where, after a $2000 deposit, Motor Meister took the entire thing apart and went out of business. Motor came back and is in a box in pieces. The head studs all look fine. Don't know what to do. My mechanic, does not feel competent enough to put it back together, and everyone I ask tells me I should not try. I have a decent shop, and a buddy who is a decent mechanic, but am a bit scattered and have a lot of projects going on. Could really use someone local who knows how this all should go and wants to put one of these things back together, possibly in my shop, or a mechanic who looks at this engine like it is no big deal. I am not on a budget, but would rather this not cost as much as I paid for the car $10,000. I already have $2,600 in. Ironically, I am fairly certain that there was really not much wrong with the motor when this saga began. Help!

I know of a couple people up here in Central PA that would be interested in doing your engine. PM me and I'll pass on the info. Had my SC done by one of em a few years ago and it crazy pulls. The Harrisburg area isn't that far from VA ... although I'm sure a few pelicaneeers out there know a guy who knows a guy etc in VA

I would suggest talking to Taylor Chapman at Chapman Auto Werks. His shop is near Dulles Airport in Northern Va. He is a really good guy, knows Porsches, and most important is honest. He is the go-to guy for many of us in Northern Va.

Good luck

Sorry to hear of your MM experience.

Contact Scott @ RSWerks in DE.

Contact

He goes by earlycar911 here on Pelican.

He's a straight shooter and he'll get you back on the road without charging and arm & a leg.

Not sure if you are familiar with Dorkiphus.net - Powered by vBulletin but it's a good resource for local knowledge in VA.

Ten to one the OP is the motormeister ass-hat that has used about four different user names in the last two months.

Has not been online since last night but asks an open ended dire straits question for someone to save him.

No clue what to do but he knows Pelican.

This is hogwash.

Thanks all for your input. Have not had the time to follow up with all the suggestions and leads, but am also considering putting the engine back together with the help of some friends. Just ordered the book, "How to rebuild your 911 engine" to get a feel for the undertaking. A friend of mine who knows the inside of engines looked over the parts and concluded that new bearings, head studs, and testing of the heads (machine shop) was all he would do. Thanks again.
