New power window question
 

Ok, so I tested 12 volts at both passenger window switches (driver and passenger door). I removed the window motor and it will not spin at all. Tried rag over gear and turn with pliers and nothing. I then tested the two wires that attach to the motor and I get 12 volts without activating the switch. When I activate the switch the voltage goes to zero. What am I doing wrong here? I cant figure this out. Please chime in with any insight.

Also, I took the gear end of the window motor apart from the electric motor and both spin free when apart. Put them back together and it will not spin. I am at a complete loss. HELP! Thanks.

Hope I am reading your post correctly. So, if have removed the motor from the regulator and you can turn the motor shaft/gear freely by hand that is an indication that your armature is freed up. Now if you follow this by applying 12vdc to the motor with the motor removed from the regulator and it does not spin, that is an indication that your motor is tits up.

I removed the motor assembly from the regulator and it will not turn. I separated the the electric motor from the gear assembly and both pieces turn freely. Put the two pieces back together and it wont turn.

The other question is that I have 12 volts at the two wires that hook to the motor with out the switch activated. Push the switch to put window up and the voltage goes to zero. Is this normal?

If you have 12vdc at the motor terminal wires without depressing window switches you have the switch(s) wired incorrectly. There are unlimited switch/wiring posts on this site. Do a search for same and you can pull them up.

Again, with the motor separated from the gear assy and 12vdc applied to the motor does it spin??

Ok, double checked wiring and you were right, had two wires wrong. Now, the motor when hooked up will spin with switch in down position but not in up position. This explains why window went down but not up. I installed a new switch after the window would not go up and get the same thing. Do you think it is the window motor?

Since the motor is running in one direction that is a great sign that your motor is fine. Your problem is that your wiring to your window switch(s) is incorrect. When the switch is pressed down your polarity is flowing in one direction and so when you push the switch up the switch is reversing the polarity in opposite direction. So, you need to study the wire colors and hook them per posts on this site.

I would advise you to also check your switch(s) wiring on the drivers door as that is where your passenger side door is being fed from. Search for this post on this forum and it will give you switch wiring

Using jumper wires, attach to motor leads again get your motor to spin and then reverse the polarity on the motor by reversing the jumper wires and see if motor spins in opposite direction. If motor spins in both directions your motor is good. If not, your motor is bad. You can verify if your switching the polarity on the switch by hooking meter leads to switch leads and move switch up and down and see if meter goes from neg to pos or vise versa.

I switched the two wires where they attach to the motor and motor only spins in one direction. I think I will order a new motor.

Did you verify you were getting polarity reversing by hooking a test meter to the leads and then verify by moving switch up and down?
