Full Length in-car race video as promised (35 min)

Here is the link to the aforementioned Video from this weekend. I would really like someone to be able to host it for me, as it is 50MB and will likely exceed my capacity quickly.

I did post it in streaming format so you can watch it without downloading the whole thing!

Can someone host this?

A few interesting points of note...

1) Right after the start, turn three, demonstration on over/undercorrection 3 times in a row...
2) About 10 minutes in, a good spin as a result of massive understeer (overheated Kumho's)
3) 20 minutes in, catching up back to my original position before the spin after driving my heart out! (the yellow AH and blue Porsche)

Cheers and enjoy!

Here is the link on the other server, I will post the quicktime version later...

New link

Chris, see my post on bell's ot airshow thread. Problem is I don't have Real server on that machine, so I don't think it will work. If you have a QT or other format feel free to upload that.

I keep getting connection time-out error messages after 5-6 minutes of the footage. I vote for Quicktime, too.

I can host it (West Coast) in any non-streaming format(s) and possibly format-convert it too; just lemme know.

I vote for Quicktime

Real Player for some reason isn't working. Could you convert the file? Thanks.

Quicktime sucks. Go Divx; it's free.

Crud. I'll see what I can do about it...

You don't need a REAL server to host it, as I can embed the link in an HTML page...

Essentially an HTML page with a link to the RAM file. The RAM file points to the RM file. All I need is a place to store the RM file...

I'm uploading it tonight to you, thanks nostatic.

I'll see about converting it to quicktime also. The rendering takes a long time, so I'll kick it off before bed. Can quicktime be streamed?

Yes, quicktime can be streamed by two different methods. There is pseudo streaming, where the movie is hinted, and upon download, the client calculates file size and network speed, then starts the movie once enough is downloaded to let it finish correctly. It can also have true streaming, but that requires a proper QuickTime Streaming Server (which I just happen to have on my desktop machine...OS X rocks).

If you can upload a QT movie, I'll take care of the rest. I might be able to convert from real to QT too, but not until tomorrow.

I had to go to work to watch the video

It was very good. Being there Sat. and watching video is a great incentive to get out there myself. But Talk is cheap you know!

BTW that pass of the yellow A-H was very pleasing from the seats at the first turn!

We need more!

Stream served fine for me!

Thanks for the footage, Chris - nice work.
I was watching, kinda getting into your groove. When the Cobra[?] passed up the inside, I found myself thinking "don't try to stick on him, hes just faster" .........then a few turns later it looping time! Done the same thing more times than I care to count.

Most really experienced instructors know that two tendencies are dangerous; following the guy in front's line, and trying to stick to a much faster car. Wish I could shake the second one.

Nice laps, Chris!

TOny,

I had about 3/10's of a second on the white corvette. The main reason he got by me was that I missed a shift. Tried to downshift since the slower traffic got me... COuldn't get it from 3rd to second....

Put it back in to 3rd and lugged it out...

THe SPIN? I've looked at the tape 20 times already and I had the same line as before. At the party that night, a corner worker I know told me a lot of people were understeering massively out of there...

I was at the same turn in, same RPM, same wheel position as all the other laps... I just don;t get it...

Ce'st La Vie... Got a lot of "wow exciting" comments from spectators later... I'm only dissapointed that I broke my 1&2 streak. THis was the first time this year I finished less than 2nd.. But the guy who passed me has 4-500 HP, so it cuold be worse... Coulda been that MINI... Har har...

Well, you can also say you were wrongly black flagged, I was there, the white vette wasn't as fast as Chris, and at the end the vette was slower and sliding around quite a bit. I suspect with out the penalty stop Chris might have had a chance to get the vette back.

So what is your class engine displacement limit?

The spin, There were several spins there all day at least 5 or 6 and some in your group also. You might have got some dirt there or somebody may laid down some oil long before and you just found the slick spot!

My car is 7cc shy being 2993 CC's... Nice of Porsche...

It drives me absolutely bonkers actually... Bouncing all over the place... I've looked at every ground in the system to try and fix it... No dice.

I shift when I THINK I'm close to redline....

Now, I've had my eyes on a nice Autometer tach for some time, but as the wife pointed out "Didn't you say it was a ZEN thing?"

Me and my big mouth...

yea "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance"

or the Zen when your in the "red mist"

the tach is $200

the rebuild is $10000

buy a new tach

Its obvious you have many more track miles than I, I was just chiming in with an observation...

If I may add another tid bit it seemed like your gears werent op-timised for that track..... just by ear it sounded like you lost to many rev's in some corners

can you use something like
this?

Tim,

It's a stock 915 gearbox. A longer second and shorter 3rd would be the perfect setup... The "low" RPM's you're hearing are at about 4000. True power band on the car is about 4700-6500 RPM... (Not much room)

This happens at:
Turns 2&3 at Gingerman
Turn 6 at BlackHawk,
Canada Corner (turn 12) at Road America

For shorter/tighter tracks, the 915 is in a bad spot during lower speed corners, wanting to be at the top of second, or bottom of third.

I've tried both ways, but found that the extra time to get the car in second offsets any gains I've gotten with the extra rev's... Staying in third puts the car just below the power band, but requires less effort..

I suppose if the trans shifted quicker, it would be easier... But to make this happen, I'd have to open the gearbox, if I ever open it, 2nd and 3rd will be the first thing that is changed... I could retard the motor slightly for more torque in this area, but I'm loathe to lose the top end.
