Front Oil Cooler Duct Mod

Many have done this mod for the RS Style bumper and oil cooler mods. Here's another one made from flat sheet. Actually I curved everything everything for strength. Here are a few photos

Once I get the actual oil cooler that I plan to use, I will also fab up some brackets and baffling so that the air actually goes through the cooler and not around it.

Overall, happy with the result so far.
Cheers,
Tom

Here's the before pic, showing the lack of clearance.

I just did this today. Converted short hood to long and welded in duct for oil cooler. Added tabs to mount oil cooler. First welding project so excuse the bad welding! I’ve been just winging it.

Nice Mark,
What Oil Cooler is that? I haven't purchased mine yet.
Thanks

It’s a Mishimoto found online. Got it because it was the biggest to fit the area as I’m running a 3.6. It’s 20.5” long and just fits! I might have to shave the bottom brackets off. Also it looks like I can run the oil lines behind the bumper. I didn’t want to cut into the car.

Here is my 71 911 with a Setrab Oil Cooler that clears the RS Bumper....

It required custom 30mm Oil Fittings and clears without chassis mods and uses the later A/C front crash bar as the main support.

Where did you get the AC crash bar support? I like that!

Whatever oil cooler you get, the bigger the inlet / outlet fittings, the better the flow.
I have a Setrab 72 row with -22 fittings for my track car 3.6 conversion.

The support bar is a factory part for the mid 80's 911s.

More than enough room for air flow without cutting the tub, at least for a street car.

For the Track, what Tom has done is worthwhile and necessary.

Nice job Tom.

Thanks Len, that's a good tip to repurpose the AC bar!
