Silly question, but are the studs that secure the valve covers unique or are they the same as the cylinder head exhaust studs?

A quick look at a parts catalog should help. For the '72-3s, the upper valve cover studs are 35mm long, the intake manifold studs are 20mm, and the exhaust studs varied from 22 (carb/cis) to 25 (MFI). Put the book back before I reread your question so I didn't check to see if the exhaust cover studs were the same as the intakes.

Thanks, I ended up doing the same thing and essentially answered my own question. I think the exhaust studs should work.
