Photo: Rogue cable after SSI / back-dating?
Hi guys,
I just had a mechanic install SSI heat exchangers and an M&K muffler into my 1980 911SC. When I popped the engine bonnet later in the day to check the oil level (to make sure he didn't over-fill), I spotted a cable coming from the front left side of the motor with a wire tip that isn't connected to anything. Can anyone tell me what this is? ![]()

abides.

Looks like the [broken] end of the cruise control cable that attaches to the throttle linkage.
The other end would attach to a canister mounted on the firewall.

Thanks, guys. Any idea why the cable would have been disconnected as a result of back-dating the exhaust? Was this just an oversight on the part of my mechanic?

May have disconnected it to get it out of the way. I would ask him.

That looks broken or cut. I can't imagine any reason your mechanic would have needed that out of the way to do SSI's and a muffler even with the oil line changes, all of which are below the engine tin on the underside. Did he drop the engine for other reasons?

@sfj911 He definitely didn't drop the engine. I've asked him, and he's claiming no knowledge of it - but the cable wasn't just hanging out before I brought the car to him.

Did your CC work before taking it in for SSI install?
