getting keys question
I have a 69t that is a major project. It came without keys what do you think is the easiest way to get keys
Is there someone that has a service |
For my 76 911S I just took my title to the local porsche dealer and they had porsche in Germany cut a new key. Took 2 weeks . If you go in with just your vin number they won't order it they want proof you own the car. Got the new key and it worked perfect.

Call Tony Eugenio. He's the expert for early Porsche keys and locks.

I went to the dealer about a year ago with my title for my 1970 and they told me that they could not get keys for my car, it was too old. I wonder what year is the cutoff if BeeMaster got keys for his 76. I ended up buying a used ignition lock with keys from our host's used parts forum.
|
Yeah I contacted the dealer and the cutoff is when vins switched over to start with WPO
I will pm bfunke to get Tony's contact info |
I do not want to be stupid, but how do you start your car? How did you get it home?
|
It is a project car roller that I had delivered
It is a ways from running I am just tracking down missing items while it is to cold work out in the shop |
You will need to get a tumbler from one of the doors and or the ignition switch. Tumbler removal not too difficult. Once you have a tumbler out and secure (will be made more difficult without a key, you can send the tumbler to Tony and he can make you keys. Might want to remove the entire ignition switch assembly and just send it to Tony. Tony Eugenio is at 610.461.0519

Thanks for the info

I'm sure Tony is the man, but I'd also bet you could remove a tumbler and take it to an old-school locksmith/key guy in your hometown and he'll cut you a new key (assuming he has a blank) from looking at the pins. I just got a spare key made for my '89 at the local guy when I realized he had the old blanks, cost was $2.25 out the door.

Tony can feel cut the ignition and the alarm key, worked times for me.

Took the door handle from my 73.5 to a local locksmith and he cut me a key a few months ago. If they don't have Porsche blanks, there are those from another car (Volvo? Pontiac? Don't recall) that will also work. Your local Porsche shop has likely run into this problem before and can direct you to a capable locksmith.

For the guys that had the dealer order a new key, what was the cost? Thanks.
|
I got one of these:
917 style key Spendy, but every time I turn the key I feel like an old, fat, ugly Steve McQueen! |

But from the sound of things it not all dealers are created equal so to know what you
Would have to pay you have to go in and ask. Oh and the plastic part you turn has a little flashlight in it |
you can buy the blank and the flashlight fob on Ebay (genuine Porsche)for about $54.00
+ shipping |
