I have seen some threads about the rough starting 911 but have never seen the solution to the problem, which can be summed up as follows: Starts quickly but sputters and has a very rough idle, including some backfiring and other unpleasantries which I avoid by blipping the throttle lightly once or twice. After about 10-15 seconds of this, it takes off on its own and settles into a nice idle at about 800-900 rpms.
Any thoughts? If I find a fix I will post it, I promise, so that others can learn as well. Thanks Mike 86 Carrera PS - Just did a valve adjusment and tune up. Not too bad and lots of $$ saved. |

Could be caused by vacuum leaks. A common place for leaks are at the intake manifolds. See of you can tighten them down; it might surprise you how loose they can get.
