I have a cab, so I am not sure if the Valnetine would be as inconspicuous as it is in your coupe. Does it mount to the windshield via suction cups or does it mount to the roof?

Think wisely about your purchase. Your concerns about placement should be secondary. Your first thought should be about getting the best protection from speeding tickets you can get. I really like the V1 for all the information it gives me. I can make informed decisions based on the number of radar signals it picks up, direction of the signal(s), and signal strength.

I place mine just below my rear view mirror, with part of the display covered by the bottom of the mirror. I mount it with window mount with which it comes. I don't bother with a remote display, but Chris' setup does sound nice. I find my placement works very well... it's not as high as it can go, but I can easily read its display and that makes it more effective for me.

a game that bears play is to shoot close to a shopping center or other areas that transmit detector triggers...the driver thinks the detector is only reacting to routine triggers.why not, happens every time you pass there.....the V-1 helps w/ "informed decisions"...........Ron

My reluctance to the V1 is because of the fact that it cannot be hidden. One of those flying objects stuck to my windshield that always find a way to come undone.

I understand how the radar works and the reason they have not created a hidden one yet, but an officer walking up to your car and seeing the detector (probably already saw it from behind) is not going to help your case (obviously this assumes your detector did not do its job) and maybe give you the ability to get a warning or get out of it.

Why would you need a detector if you not speeding???

Also with the hidden detector, I can switch mine off while turning off the car and no cop is going to know the difference between a little black rocker switch and a factory switch (unless he is a Pcar guy in which case he is going to talk pcars and let me go! )

Not sure if this still holds true or not but when laser first went into service the police officer had to aim it at something verticle and something that would reflect well.

The target most often picked where headlights and front tags. Followed closely by verticle grills. One of the suggestions in an article I read was to install high wattage head lights and burn them all the time. The head light emitted light waves that where similar enough to the laser that it would weaken the signal enough that the gun could not get a good lock on your speed until you where right on top of the officer. In theory in you are watch for patrol cars this would allow enough time to slow down.

I have also read that (and not sure this pertains to laser) That for the most accurate readings using radar the angle of the gun as compared to path of travel must not exceed 45 degrees. Once you pass 45 degrees the readings become very inaccurate and will not hold up in court. Again not sure if that still true or not so use at your own risk.

That being said My Escort Solo is due for replacement and a V1 is on the top of the list.

OK...I checked out the Lidatek site....and basically it says nothing.
They do have a great disclaimer though.
The unit is very small, easily hidden, and completely useless!
How do you jamb a short burst, infared, pulsed signal with anything other than a full blown, laboratory acurate, computer controlled transmitter??
The gun only fires for a millisecond.
The gun fires at it's own frequency (and the inra-red spectrum is quite wide).
In order to flood the gun's receiver section...you would need to beat the pulse back home,
This means...the gun fires...the beam hits you (at 186,000 miles a second) for 1/10000 th of a second...and returns to the gun at the same speed.
Your unit has to pick up the signal...turn on the transmitter....fire it's pulse....and hope to beat the returning signal back to the gun!!
If these ppl actually have something that is faster than the speed of light....WOW...they should own the world.

Jammers are snake-oil (do a search for a previous thread on the topic).

But sometimes a 6th-sense can do what even the V1 can't! I was traveling last week on a rural interstate. Very light traffic - 1 car every 1 mile or so (very risky to speed alone, although the odds of a cop wasting his time radaring such light traffic is low). This was a wooded area with emergency roads thru the woods every so often - this is where the State Bulls always sit. I had blown by a number of these but for some reason slowed from 90 down to 75 just before a curve where I knew another emergency road was. Sure enough, Mr. Instant-On tags me at the same time we make visual contact. But I was well under the 80MPH ticket-writing threshold, so no problem! I would have been toast relying on the detector alone. -- Curt
